I'm Andy, the founder of Local Property Guru. My journey to becoming a home improvement specialist and establishing Local Property Guru Ltd began about thirty years ago. After university, I worked in manufacturing, eventually managing operations in a number of businesses. I had always loved renovating my own homes and eventually branched out into property development alongside my career. My passion for this hands-on work led me to set up a small bathroom installation business which I ran for about 10 years. During this time, I became a qualified electrician, plumber and plaster.  A change in my family circumstances lead me to make a complete career change and become a primary school teacher. However, the feeling of satisfaction that I’ve always got from completing a home improvement project always drew me back towards the home improvement industry.

The pivotal moment that inspired me to create Local Property Guru was a disastrous loft conversion experience when I was teaching which left my home damaged and saw me part company with the contractor and finish the job myself. Luckily, I had the skills to do so. However, the experience convinced me that there must be a place in the market for a business that acts with professionalism, striving to be reliable, honest and respectful of customers and their homes. I strive to be different from the builders we all hear so much about - I won't treat your home disrespectfully or dismiss your ideas. I believe anything is possible, if there is a problem you have just not worked out how to solve it yet.

In my spare time, I still enjoy DIY and love to travel. My wonderful partner Catherine has given me the travel bug, and I'm on a mission to visit every country in Europe. I’ve always been fairly sporty and my experience of competitive athletics has instilled in me a drive for excellence, which I bring to every project we complete at Local Property Guru.
